12 couples tie the knot in a mass wedding ceremony in Silchar on Sunday
GUWAHATI: Twelve couples from different communities in the Barak Valley will be married in a mass wedding ceremony in Sillchar, southern Assam, organized by the Lions Club.
They will marry on Sunday during the 18th edition of Gana Bibaha 2022, at the premises of the Normal School of Silchar.
Pradip Ghosh, president of Lions Club Silchar, said up to 12 couples will wed amid blessings, cheers and jubilation.
He said the couples would receive gifts, a ration for a month as well as necessary merchandise from the organizers on the occasion.
Samik Sen, club secretary along with SS Endow, Rupnayan Das, RN Dutta Banik, Jashabanta Das and others informed that the couples are mostly day laborers of the tea gardens.
The ceremony would be held adhering to Covid 19 guidelines and maintaining safety protocol, Lions members said.
“Over the years, through this project, we have endeavored to extend humble cooperation to people who mainly come from remote areas of tea gardens, including Chandigarh Tea Garden, Kashipur Tea Estate, Nagar TE, etc.”, Das said.
“We thank the authorities of the Normal School of Silchar for providing us with the premises for the annual ceremony. Also, we thank the other associations for their support in the goal,” he added.
