The Tacloban City Government has set the last week of October 2022 as the application deadline for those wishing to avail of the free mass civil marriage program in the city.

Tacloban City Civil Registrar Imelda Roa said the city government would sponsor the mass wedding on November 17, 2022.

About 50 couples are expected to join the mass wedding ceremony to be performed by Mayor Alfred Romualdez at the city’s Pacific Point Events Place and Resort.

“The initiative aims to legitimize the union of indigent single couples, minimize the number of illegitimate children and establish a solid foundation for couple and family life,” said the City Information Office ( IOC).

To register, the following documents must be submitted to the city’s Civil Registry Office (CCRO): a birth certificate (or baptismal certificate) of the couple; if he is a widower, a copy of the spouse’s death certificate is required; a certificate of non-marriage (Cenomar); and an affidavit of cohabitation (from an attorney).

The couple will also need to have two witnesses, according to the IOC.

Citing the family code, the city government said interested couples must be of legal age and have a child at least five years old.

Prior to the mass wedding, the couples will also attend a pre-wedding seminar, which will be led by the CCRO.

Registrants are encouraged to visit the CCRO or CCRO Tacloban Facebook page for more information. (SunStar Philippines)

Zunheboto, October 6 (MExN): Five couples were celebrated by Dr. Hutton Sumi, pastor of the Sumi Zunheboto Baptist Church at his “first mass wedding” on October 6.

The church leader said ‘it was the first time a mass wedding was held, there must be some criticism’, however, he believes ‘the church was doing it for a better cause’ and added that “one of the reasons was time constraints”.

In a press release, the official informed that the church celebrated 104 weddings last year and “we are waiting for everyone for our wedding and in the long term, many office workers and professional workers have missed 104 days. of office in a year, which is more than 3 months and the church decided to have a mass wedding also from a financial perspective, which affected many church members in the past and taking this initiative was to help church members and this year they planned a mass wedding which was a big success.

The general congregation that showed up for the wedding was around 3,500 and it saved them five days as five couples married together, the statement said.

Stating that the mode of marriage from a single couple to mass marriage has changed, “but the sacred marital vow remains the same and not one iota of a vow has been taken away from what it used to add that this being the first there might have been some loopholes but they will improvise over time and by changing the weather like this they have to keep up with the times and therefore they are trying to make changes in the mode of marriage .

According to the press release, the official informed that the church will have five more mass weddings until December where 28 couples will be vowed and hopes that “this small change will have a lot of impact among the church members and at long term for the people around them and furthermore hope that it will have a positive impact more than a negative one.

Previously the ceremony was presided over by Ghunato Asumi, Assistant Pastor General SBCZ, invocation pronounced by Hilotoli Awomi Assoc. Pastor (C), special song presented by the SBCZ Music Committee and concluded with the blessing spoken by Itokato Chophy, Associate Pastor (C).

100 young couples who were unable to organize their wedding ceremonies have married in a mass wedding sponsored by a generous businessman in Sar-e-Pol province in northern Afghanistan.

On Friday, September 16, hundreds of Sar-e-Pol residents, local officials, religious scholars, tribal elders and family members of the bride and groom attended the wedding ceremony at Sar-e-Pol Stadium. .

According to the representative of Mohammad Akbar Sultanzada, the generous-handed national businessman paid the expenses for the mass wedding ceremony for these 100 young couples.

Each of these brides received two six-meter hand-woven Afghan carpets, 25,000 Afghan cash and wedding dresses.

Deputy Governor of the Taliban government in Sar-e-Pol, Mohammad Nader Haqjo, applauded the holding of this mass wedding ceremony saying that marriage is the only thing that can stop the “vice” and moral corruption in the society.

It is customary for cash-strapped Afghan couples to pool their resources to hold affordable mass weddings, and the practice is already widespread in Sar-e-Pol province.

Two of the newlyweds, Obaidullah and Mohammad Murad, said financial problems prevented them from planning their wedding ceremony.

In Afghanistan, a country sorely under-resourced, marriage is an expensive ceremony with heavy dowries, extravagant gifts and expensive receptions.

Earlier last week, with the help of the Union of Sar-e-Pol People Living Abroad, a mass wedding ceremony for 40 couples was also held in the town of Sar-e-Pol , the provincial capital.

The accountant revealed that she was in Form 6 and James was in Form 5 when she first noticed him.

“It was love at first sight and since then I haven’t looked back,” she added.
