As the saying goes, “if it’s meant to be, it will be”. This turned out to be true for the Michelin-starred chef, Fierce cooking champion and founder of Just Savor, Chef Huda, and her beau, IT director and former owner of Lamar vineyard. They first met in 2010, briefly introduced by a friend who thought they could help each other in business.
âShe thought we had to meet because Huda was an amazing chef and I owned a winery at the time and she thought we could work together and we would be the perfect match,â Lamar told ESSENCE. But things stalled. Better yet, they never started.
âWe exchanged business cards and never followed each other,â he adds.
But because Huda and Lamar were actually meant to be, two years later life would bring them together again.
âIn 2012, we were both at the same party in Arlington, Virginia, and when I saw her I walked over and said ‘Hey I know you’ and of course she said ‘ No, you don’t know him ‘. âHe recalls.â I reminded him in detail of how we met two years ago and my memories must have impressed him because we spent the rest of the night. and that we have been inseparable ever since. ”
The love of the two would culminate in a proposal in the beautiful Hillwood Estate in DC (and the museum and garden) and finally, a wedding in Barbados on November 20, 2021. Getting to this point wouldn’t be easy, as the couple had done. to postpone their big day Three times, making their plans for two years due not only to COVID, but personal family barriers as well. Nonetheless, when their wedding weekend finally took place, it was an unforgettable moment. It involved a private island tour, a catamaran cruise, a visit to Rihanna’s childhood home and more. But nothing beats their dreamy nuptials at The Crane resort, with four incredible chefs cooking up Barbadian fare (including one of our favorites, Javon Cummins), a fiddler and cellist at the ceremony, and the happiest moment of all. , Huda and Lamar arrive together to cement their lifelong love.
âSeeing loved ones and close friends in Barbados help us celebrate our love is a moment I will never forget,â Huda said.
