Gujarat: 300 women to marry in mass wedding ceremony in Surat on December 4-5
More than 300 women, including 103 who have lost their parents, from different communities across the state will marry in a mass wedding ceremony hosted by a business group in Surat on December 4-5. At least 15 of the women have lost a parent to Covid, according to sources on the organizing committee.
AAP chief and Delhi deputy chief minister Manish Sisodia and Gujarat opposition leader Paresh Dhanani will attend the ceremony along with other political leaders. The event, organized by the Sawani group, will be held on the PP Sawani school campus in Abrahma, on the outskirts of Surat town.
The rituals will take place according to the respective religious customs of the couples, for which priests from the Hindu, Muslim, Christian and Sikh communities have been invited.
AAP chief and Sawani group chairman Mahesh Sawani said: “We have invited Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Union Home Minister Amit Shah as well as all ministers and deputies from the government of state, including Chief Minister Bhupendra Patel. We provide temporary accommodation for couples as well as household items. The mass wedding could not take place last year due to the Covid pandemic, but this year we have been granted clearance and the event will run under all Covid protocols. “
