“200,000 Afghanis was the cost of each groom, and domestic and foreign benefactors helped us meet this expense so that we could organize this mass wedding,” said Shah Wali, organizer of the program.

The families of the couples have criticized traditions that call for expensive weddings, saying that due to these traditions their daughters and sons have been engaged for many years but due to economic hardship they are not in able to pay the wedding expenses.

Some couples are happy to hold this kind of program.

“I’m a student and I can’t afford my wedding expenses, that’s why I joined this charitable foundation and I recommend families to participate in this program,” said Ali Senna, a groom.

We are so happy with this program; we appreciate these mass weddings, it avoided unnecessary expense,” said Aman Ullah, a groom.

“The price is high, everyone is unemployed, that’s why the groom can’t organize the wedding,” said Sakina, the bride’s mother.
