Shreveport launches new LED bridge with fireworks and mass wedding

The new “Bakowski Bridge of Lights” on the Texas Street Bridge has officially made its Shreveport debut with a bang.

On Tuesday, the community was invited to celebrate the first lighting of the bridge and watch couples get married or renew their vows as part of this historic moment for Shreveport.

Broadway lighting designer Jason Lyons put together a display of lights and fireworks for the event.

Mayor Adrian Perkins and Shreveport Regional Arts Council Executive Director Pam Atchison thanked community members who helped create the bridge and paid tribute to students who took Lyons’ special lighting classes .

Ashley and Christopher Clarke got married during the "Bakowski Bridge of Lights" Texas Street Bridge Dedication and Group Wedding Event Tuesday evening February 22, 2022.

After the first lightings and fireworks, 28 couples were married on stage at the Riverview Amphitheater and had their first dances with friends, family and community.

The festivities included food trucks, music, dancing, stilt walkers and glowing lights everywhere.
