Tacloban sets registration deadline for free civil mass wedding
The Tacloban City Government has set the last week of October 2022 as the application deadline for those wishing to avail of the free mass civil marriage program in the city.
Tacloban City Civil Registrar Imelda Roa said the city government would sponsor the mass wedding on November 17, 2022.
About 50 couples are expected to join the mass wedding ceremony to be performed by Mayor Alfred Romualdez at the city’s Pacific Point Events Place and Resort.
“The initiative aims to legitimize the union of indigent single couples, minimize the number of illegitimate children and establish a solid foundation for couple and family life,” said the City Information Office ( IOC).
To register, the following documents must be submitted to the city’s Civil Registry Office (CCRO): a birth certificate (or baptismal certificate) of the couple; if he is a widower, a copy of the spouse’s death certificate is required; a certificate of non-marriage (Cenomar); and an affidavit of cohabitation (from an attorney).
The couple will also need to have two witnesses, according to the IOC.
Citing the family code, the city government said interested couples must be of legal age and have a child at least five years old.
Prior to the mass wedding, the couples will also attend a pre-wedding seminar, which will be led by the CCRO.
Registrants are encouraged to visit the CCRO or CCRO Tacloban Facebook page for more information. (SunStar Philippines)
