Taguig couples tie up in mass social-distancing marriage
MANILA, Philippines – Thirty couples from Taguig tied the knot last Friday in a social-distancing mass wedding celebrated by Mayor Lino Cayetano.
Photos posted to Facebook on Sunday by the city government show the couples getting married in the Kasalang Bayan program held at Mercado Del Lago, Barangay Lower Bicutan.
âThe Kasalang Bayan is one of the happiest events we look forward to every year, but it has been canceled several times due to the pandemic,â Cayetano said in a statement.
“Now we have a sure way to keep the tradition going and to marry couples in Taguig,” he added.

Wearing masks and face shields, the couples could be seen occupying separate huts at the Mercado del Lago as they watched Cayetano celebrate the wedding on television.
Taguig’s vital statistics office has opened slots for just 30 couples for mass marriage.
The solemn ceremony included wine and cake rituals for the couples as well as a kiss to conclude the ceremony.
âI am so happy that we can come together and celebrate a wonderful and inspiring occasion,â Cayetano said.
âI hope people see the deeper message on this occasion: there is a safe way to shop, dine out, do business, socialize and more. Welcome to the new normal, âhe added.
