MANILA, Philippines – Eleven Persons with Disabilities (PWD) couples were married in a “Kasalang Bayan” (mass wedding) officiated by Taguig City Mayor Lani Cayetano at Lakeshore Hall, Barangay Lower Bicutan on Wednesday .

According to Cayetano, mass marriage is a way to assure “Tanguigueño people with disabilities that they can enjoy the same rights as everyone else, including the right to have a happy family and a loving home, and much more” .

It specifically aims to offer Taguigueño couples, at least one of whom is a PSH, an opportunity to marry.

The mass wedding program was sponsored by Taguig LGU and organized by the Office of Disability Affairs in coordination with the Vital Statistics Office.

The local government provided the couples with the rings, wine, cake and venue.

Besides marriage, the LGU of Taguig grants other privileges to people with disabilities, such as monthly allowances, dental assistance, and livelihood training. —Christian Paul Dela CruzINQUIRER.net intern
