KUALA TERENGGANU, July 2 ― After a two-year hiatus due to the Covid-19 pandemic, the Terengganu government will organize the Mass Marriage Celebration Program to help couples get married for free from September.

Hanafiah Mat, president of the State Welfare, Women and Family Development and the National Unity Committee, said the program aims to ease the burden on less fortunate families and encourage single parents in the state to remarry.

“The celebration ceremony and wedding reception will be handled by Yayasan Pembangunan Keluarga Terengganu (YPKT) and the selected couples will not have to spend any money as everything will be funded by the state government.

“Each couple will receive a set of wedding outfits, platforminvitation cards, photographer service, special wedding party with immediate family members and keepsakes for guests,” he said in a statement today.

The program, dubbed Majlis Walimatul Urus Perdana, was introduced in 2016. By 2019, a total of 1,167 couples had benefited from the program.

Elaborating, Hanafiah said single parents who participated in the scheme were eligible to receive an incentive of RM1,000 each.

“We also offer working capital of up to RM20,000 under the Jaya Diri loan scheme for young couples,” he said.

Those interested in the program can visit the official website of YPKT or contact the YPKT district for more information, he added. ― Bernama
